  1. Log in into your ESXi server and click Create/Register VM and select Deploy a virtual machine from an OVF or OVA file. Click Next.
  2. Enter a name for the new virtual machine and drag/drop the OVA file to deploy the virtual machine. Click Next.

  3. Optionally, modify the Select Storage settings. Click Next.
  4. Agree to the license agreement. Click Next.
  5. Select the appropriate Network Mappings as per ESXi configuration and select Thick as the Disk provisioning setting. Click Next.
  6. Click Finish and the new virtual machine is created.
  7. Optionally, you can modify the settings of the new virtual machine. Right-click the new virtual machine and select Edit Settings to modify configurations. You may not require to edit the settings as the OVA file has all requisite configurations to set up the virtual machine.

  8. Right-click the new virtual machine and click Power On.
The installation process may take 2-3 minutes (approximately) and appear to pause at times. FortiGuest is successfully installed when the login prompt appears.
Installation on ESXi 6.7 and above throws an OS error, ignore this message or navigate to VM Options and change the OS type to Other Linux 4.x 64 bit. To obtain the Other Linux 4.x 64-bit option, navigate to Edit Settings and upgrade the VM compatibility.

  9. Power on the virtual machine.

You can now shut down and restart FortiGuest from VMWare.
