How the Upgrade Path Tool works

The tool returns the shortest tested upgrade path between your current firmware and a target release. Each hop has been validated by Fortinet QA — taking these steps in order is the recommended way to upgrade.

1. 01

   Choose your product & model

   We narrow the version list to firmware actually released for that hardware or VM — so you never see versions that don't apply to you.

2. 02

   Pick current & target versions

   Current is what's running now; target is where you want to land. Major, minor, and patch numbers all matter.

3. 03

   We compute the shortest tested path

   Fortinet QA validates specific point-to-point upgrades. The tool runs a shortest-path search over that graph and returns the fewest hops.

4. 04

   Follow the hops in order

   Each step is a full install of that firmware build. Wait for services to stabilize between hops; do not skip ahead.
