Add devices
You must add devices to the Device Manager and authorize the devices before you can manage them using FortiManager.
Central Management must also be enabled for FortiGate devices to allow FortiManager to manage the device. For more information, see Configuring the management address and Configuring Central Management in the FortiGate/FortiOS Administration Guide.

Adding a VM deviceBy default, FortiManager will not recognize the following VM devices:

Adding devices using the Add Device wizard
Use the Add Device wizard to add devices to FortiManager using the following methods:

Adding devices using automatic onboarding
Configure an automatic onboarding rule to allow the automatic onboarding and authorization of FortiGate devices to FortiManager. See Adding FortiGate devices using automatic onboarding.
Requesting management from devices
You can also configure a device to request management by FortiManager. These devices appear on the Device Manager pane in the unauthorized device list. For example, configuring a FortiGate's central management settings to be managed by FortiManager will cause the FortiGate device to be displayed in the unauthorized device list in FortiManager.
Authorizing devices
Once a device has been added to FortiManager, it can be authorized for device management.
Importing and exporting device lists
Using the Export Device List option, you can export a large number of devices, device VDOMs, and device groups as JSON format and then import them using Import Device List. Device lists can also be exported as CSV and Excel files.
