Setup

If you did not use one of the quick setup scenarios — or later want to change settings — then you can use these instructions.

When you initially install FortiRecorder, or after a configuration reset or clean install, you must perform the following steps in order. Optional steps can be skipped if you want to use factory default settings.

  1. Sizing guidelines

  2. Deployment topology

  3. Registering licenses and devices with Fortinet

  4. Connecting to the FortiRecorder GUI or CLI

  5. Setting the "admin" account password

  6. Network settings, including:

    1. Configuring network interfaces

    2. Configuring routing

    3. Configuring DNS settings

    4. DHCP server settings, either:

    5. (Remote network deployments) Firewall/router settings:

      1. Configuring a policy on your firewall/router

      2. Configuring NAT/port forwarding on your firewall/router

      3. Configuring the public port numbers and domain name

  7. (Optional) Configuring the system time

  8. (Optional) Updating the firmware

  9. Upload licenses

  10. Plugging in the cameras

    1. (Cloud native cameras) Moving cloud native cameras to FortiRecorder

    2. (Remote network deployments) Discovering cameras in remote networks

  11. Camera settings, including:

    1. (Optional) Configuring video profiles

    2. (Optional) Configuring camera profiles

    3. Configuring cameras

This results in a basic, functional configuration where you can log in and cameras are connected to FortiRecorder.

If you want to add more administrator or user accounts, set up alert email, or configure more advanced settings, continue with More system settings.
