Registering FortiPortal-VM and uploading a valid license

You can obtain licenses for the BYOL licensing model through any Fortinet partner. If you do not have a partner, contact awssales@fortinet.com for assistance in purchasing a license.

In case you have no license, three free devices are allowed. Once the grace period expires, the service provider and the end-customer interfaces are not accessible anymore.

To register and download your license:
  1. Sign in to your FortiCloud account.
  2. In Asset Management, select Register Product, or click the Register More button.
  3. Provide your registration code:
    1. Enter your product serial number, service contract registration code, or license certificate number.
    2. Choose your end user type as either a government or non-government user.
    3. Click Next.
  4. Specify your registration information:
    1. If you have purchased a support contract for your product, enter the support contract.
    2. Enter a description to help identify the product.
    3. Enter the IP address of the FortiPortal-VM.
    4. Select a Fortinet Partner.
    5. Specify the asset group.
    6. Click Next.
  5. Review and accept the terms and conditions of the Fortinet Product Registration Agreement, and click Next.
  6. In the Verification page, select the checkbox to indicate that you accept the terms. Click Confirm.

    Registration is now complete and your registration summary is displayed.

  7. On the Registration Complete page, download the license file (.lic) to your computer. You will upload this license to activate the FortiPortal-VM.

    Note: After registering a license, Fortinet servers can take up to 30 minutes to fully recognize the new license. When you upload the license file to activate the FortiPortal-VM, if you get an error that the license is invalid, wait 30 minutes and try again.

Upload the license file to FortiPortal-VM

Use the following steps to upload the FortiPortal license:

  1. Go to FortiPortal-VM (Service Provider side) from a browser.
  2. Navigate to Admin > System Info, and locate the Upload License pane.
  3. In the Upload License pane, select Browse.

    The system opens a file chooser window.

  4. Select a license file and select Open.
  5. The system automatically restarts the FortiPortal-VM to apply the license.
